he 27 members of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Museum of the Albemarle represent all thirteen counties of the Albemarle region. The board serves as a support group for the Museum of the Albemarle by raising funds, advising the Museum staff of regional expectations of the Museum, and conveying information about museum exhibits, programs, and events to the citizens of their respective counties. Board members assist in recruiting and enhancing membership while serving their three-year term of office. The board meets monthly in either full board or executive session.

Contact Information For more information on the Friends of the Museum of the Albemarle, please contact: Gina Cappellano at 252-335-1453 or Mary Tirak at 252-331-4035.

All members of the Friends of the Museum of the Albemarle are eligible for
membership in the Guild. Membership dues are $10.00 per year. The Guild meets the first Thursday of each month from September through May at 10:30 AM at the Museum. Each meeting, with the exceptions of December and May, features a speaker and upon occasion, an alternative location is deemed necessary due to specific programming. For more information on the Guild and how to become a member, please call the Museum at (252) 335-1453.

For 33 years, The Guild of Museum Friends has been supporting the Museum of the Albemarle, the Northeastern branch of the North Carolina Museum of History, as a cultural and educational institution and promoting the cultural life of the Albemarle region.

Through the years, the Guild has raised money for major projects at the Museum. Some highlights include:

  • Partial funding for the purchase of the portrait of the Duke of Albemarle that hangs outside the Madrin Gallery on the second floor.
  • A $25,000 contribution to help fund the restoration and furnishing of the Jackson-Jennings House, the focal point of the “Our Story” exhibit.
  • Supporting many children’s programs at MOA.
  • Purchasing a plasma screen display for the Museum lobby, complete with computer equipment to show upcoming events, programs, lectures, restoration projects, and “behind the scenes” exhibit work at the Museum. Purchase was funded by the Guild’s program, “Opera on the Pasquotank.”

Please join us for an exciting year of education, friendship, and support of the Museum of the Albemarle.
